Ayad Allawi, former Prime Minister of Iraqi transitional government, has published his memoir in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper. Pointing to the issue of Mojahedin-e khalq in Iraq, he says, “I was one of the first people who proposed the disarmament of the Mujahideen-e khalq and banning their political, military activities against Iran.” Elsewhere he writes: “On the issue of relations with neighboring countries, I should first talk about Iran. I was one of the first people who proposed the disarmament of the MKO and asked for banning their political, military and espionage activities against Iran. Expanding financial-economical ties with Iran and exchanging economical workgroups and supporting them were on my agenda. With full power, I defended Iran’s presence in Sharm El-Sheikh as a neighboring country and I repeatedly asked Iran to host conferences of Iraqi neighboring countries.” “This interest comes from my respect to regional-ethnic issues. We have deep and wide ties with Iran. When I was prime minister, I received the Iranian ambassador and told him that the lack of trust wouldn’t benefit both sides. We respect our neighbors and we don’t interfere in their affairs. In this regard, we stopped the activities of the Mojahedin-e khalq.”
