President Mohammad Khatami, in the message, which was handed over to Allawi by Iran's charge d'affaires to Baghdad, Kazemi Qomi, expressed hope that it would serve as a prelude for full sovereignty and independence of the country and the withdrawal of foreign troops.
Qomi said at the meeting that Tehran is ready to have any kind of cooperation with Baghdad, particularly in the field of security.
Allawi said a new page has opened in history of Iran-Iraq relations, that are fraternal and cordial. He called for adoption of practical measures to promote mutual friendship.
As for the outlawed terrorist Mujahideen Khalq Organization (MKO) members, Allawi said Iraq's interim government would not allow Iraq to be turned into an insecure base for Iran.
