Enemy, war and knowledge constitute fifth column.
Before talking about MKO's role as 5th columnin Iraq-Iran war, it's necessary to take a brief look at the entity of war in MKO's viewpoint and some other political groups.
This will help us to prove principal conditions (knowledge of war and enmity) which help the role of 5th column.
An officer is well aware that when he's in the enemy soil, he should not wear plain-clothes because if he's captured he will be known as spy and he won't be treated like other captives.
A citizen, apart from being nationalist or no, also knows that cooperating with enemy during wartime will be considered as betraying and as working like 5th column.
So it's very important for one to know what he is doing in the battlefield.
Mojahedin chose "running-forward" method to defend their tactic and accused Iran of exporting revolution and fighting with Iraq. So they justify their siding with Iraqi government.
Apart from he real and political motives of this case, we should notify this fact that recognition of this issue is the duty of an international reference not a group which has cooperation with enemy and it's necessary to remind that UN has announced Iraq as an aggressor in war.
But Mojahedin acted very naively in adopting this tactic since they were aware of the different dimensions of the war and its roots and it was their Machiavelli and opportunism that changed them into a fifth column.
The Analysis of War
After the Iran's revolution, almost all groups and parties were talking about the dangers which threatened Iran and revolution.
Leftists and Mojahedin warned the danger of imperialism and its gloomy plans. Nationalists who were involved in the affairs reminded that Iran has foreign threats.
About Iraq, we can say that no power had positive analysis about it. The groups which acted in the open political situation of the country said Ba'th regime is a reactionary identity which is the puppet of imperialism.
For Mojahedin, the roots of the war were not unknown. They were aware of the Ba'th desires for war; they even saw its relation with superpowers.
Mojahedin, although opposing with Iran, couldn't deny conspiracies and this reveals their future betrayal since the border of betray and not observing rights is Awareness.
In the following parts a clear analysis about the reasons of start of war from Azadi movement has been included. The importance of this analysis is that at that time they were involved in the matter. The report Communist Party of Iraq in 1979 also is included in order not to be partial in this case and to have a look at Saddam and Ba'th party from within Iraq.
The benefit of such a report is that it has been devised by a group which had no common point with the views of Islamic republic.

Imperialism and its dividing Policies:
In order to bolster the pillars of government, imperialism uses different methods. It widens domestic conflicts by its agents and creates more conflict in regions and borders.
On the other hand, border conflicts, interfering in different affairs and claiming for regions by some countries, such as Iraq, can be a cover for many of their internal contrast.
1- Pars news agency (March, 29): last night, Khosravi border was once again attacked by armed menand Ba'th guerillas. Attackers, equipped with heavy weapons, shot at the border police station in khosravi and Tankab Nou. A soldier was killed in the attack and 7 other officers were injured.

Fighting Against Terrorism, Arming or Disarming Masses?
In the age of complexity and the authority of imperialism on the nations and when the U.S. boasts, under the cover of Human Rights, about its military power and deploys its forces and aircraft carriers and mobilizes its puppet and mercenary forces against nations (such as Iran), can we talk about the army of 20000000 at the same time when we talk about disarmament? Is disarmament of people in the way of imperialistic revolution? What is the meaning of disarming the people who are being threatened by the imperialism?

The case of the occupation of Iranian embassy in London and taking advantage of it by Carter and his friends… the results of the occupation of Iranian embassy in London can be reviewed in three different ways:
- Solving a part of internal issues of global imperialism
- Negative reflection, positive in imperialists' point of view, against the move of nations
- The activation of Britain in the scene of Iran's foreign affairs
Iraq praised the take over of Iranian embassy in London by armed men…
Al-Soureh newspaper of Iraq, praised it as a sign of reaction to resistance and revolution.
Evening Standard newspaper- British police is convinced that weapons used by Iranian commandos during the hostage taking in Iran embassy had been brought to London by an Arab diplomatic way… Police suspects Iraq in this case.

- preserving economical ties with Iran
- forming a protective military chain in the region
- solving internal contrasts with imperialist countries…

Mojahed Journal, No.72, (80-05-24):
Omond Masky, foreign minister of Carter's government, presented a four item plan in the NATO meeting and asked for the cooperation of Japan and Europe with his policies.
In this plan the U.S. wants to bolster its forces in Europe and japan. At the end of the meeting they accepted to defend Europe and Japan themselves so that the U.S. could use its forces in south Asia more than ever….
The final goal of this plan was to create a solid and unified front against the masses and the angry position of our nation against imperialism is the reason that has made imperialism to take such steps.
In the morning of 80-05-13, Omond Masky, FM of the U.S., during the NATO meeting in Brussels will present a plan which will be as follows:
1- in the case of critical condition, a sky bridge should be established between the U.S. and Europe with the use of giant cargo planes
2- establishing new bases for strengthening U.S. forces in Europe
3- bolstering saved European forces so that they could be sent to critical regions by the invitation of US
4- reviewing basic budget of NATO which had been determined up to 4.5 million dollars until 1984.
News Agencies (80-05-13):
Harold Brown, U.S. Defense Secretary, said: due to the events of Iran and Afghanistan and other disputes in Southwestern Asia we expect more powerful presence of the U.S. military in the region… European allies and Japan should take more shares in defensive efforts.

The operation of imperialism depends on the start of a war in conflicted regions of the world….
….. accepting to defend Europe by NATO member countries and also cooperation with U.S. policies in the Middle East are of the outcomes of Masky Plan.
One of the examples of this cooperation is sending weapons to Arab countries by France and also Oman's demand from the UK to buy military equipments.
On the other hand, Military agreement between Turkey and the U.S. and giving weapons to Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and… show military measures by the United States.
The deputy of U.S. Defense Secretary said that the purpose of these measures in Persian Gulf is to establish the protective power… these naked realities once again underline the truth of warnings by revolutionary forces- who insist on the necessity of mobilizing and arming masses- the only way to face imperialism.
Mojahed Journal, No.52, 80-04-29
Preparation of military interference by imperialists need preliminary factors, that's why the U.S. marines could not attack Iran without relying on spy networks and bases (which have been created by CIA agents and remnants of SAVAK).
And only in the case of revealing connections and spy networks and Savak remnants we can neutralize the conspiracies and its internal agents.

Explosive Operation of Imperialists in Tehran:
The agents of Savak, imperialism and Zionism planted five destructive bombs in Tehran among which 3 bombs were exploded in the most crowded parts of Tehran, Laleh Zar Street, Nasser Khosro Street and Imam Khomeini Square, which resulted in the death of many people.
The explosion in Imam Khomeini street was so powerful that killed 3 people and injured 13 others and damaged the cars which were parked. Some of the cars burnt in the fire.
These explosions caused the windows of shops and buildings to crash into pieces and damaged some properties.
The second explosion took place at 11 a.m. in a cinema in Laleh Zar. A number of people were wounded by the explosion that was taken to hospital. The cinema building was damaged by the explosion.
The third explosion took place in Nasser Khosro, Shams Al-Emare in a drug store. This explosion was so powerful that destroyed some shops nearby. For some times imperialists tried to isolate revolutionary forces and specially Mojahedin-e khalq by deepening conflicts in Kurdistan and spreading propagandistic against revolution.
The method of terrorist operation such as bombing and assassinating revolutionary personages which are done in order to bring fear to people is the method of imperialism. Imperialism, by this, wants to defeat revolutions.
Mojahed Journal, No.57, 80-05-06
Following the failure of U.S. military attack and successive explosions in Tehran, the real face of internal U.S. agents in dividing became more apparent and the warnings of the revolutionary forces about the agents and their bases became more important.
On the other hand, before this attack we saw a series of conflicts and clashes inside the country which were related to the plots of imperialism. Preparing the attack, creating its effects for military invasion in the country and erasing the morals of resistance were parts of the mechanism of this relationship.
An Analysis about War and Peace
Iran's Freedom Movement:
The factors of the war after the revolution are as follows: Natural effects of revolution on other societies, the fear of rulers and non-national states, the rule of super powers…
The victory of Islamic Revolution and War:
All mentioned factors were predictable about Iran and all preliminary steps for a possible attack from a foreign power were apparent.
Predicting Iraq's war:
There were evidence that after Islamic revolution of Iran, Iraqi Ba'th regime will attack Iran.
In the other words, after the revolution information and initial moves showed that some have dreamed about Iran and that Iraq is the candidate for this move.
Unlike other neighbors, Iraq was the only country that could play this role. Iraqi Ba'th regime had more solidarity and also it could have suppressed the riots of Kurds. It had close relations with some neighbors, especially with Jordan and Saudi Arabia and it was an oil producer and owner of oil storages.
In addition to what was said, there were fears in Iraq from the effects of Iranian revolution so that this fear instigated the attack. More than 60 percent of Iraqis are Shiites who are religiously dependent to Iran and their hopes are tied with that of Iran although Iraqis are fanatic abut their Arab origin.
Iran's events affected this group and this issue frightened Iraqi government, so that it had taken some steps to incite people in Khuzistan. Iraq has a long history in inciting the people of Khuzistan.
On the other hand, Iraqi army had one of the most equipped armies in the region and accessed different kinds of advanced western weapons. There was a long history of border clashes between Iran and Iraq which paved the way for the conflict. Iraq was challenging Iran and used chances whenever possible.
Notes mentioned above show that it was possible to predict Iraq's war against Iran.
Iraq incited people in Khorramshahr and Ahwaz from the beginning of revolution's victory. In west, Iraq planes bombed border villages which were the first step in instigating public opinion in Iran.
…. Iraqi army advanced very fast in war on Iran and occupied a wide area and it hadn't much difficult in providing weapons since it enjoyed the support of west and east. The army of Iraq was trained by Russians and its lining up and military planning was influenced by Russians too….
Dr. Ibrahim Yazdi, Iran's foreign minister at that time, asked Saddam Hussein in the conference of non-obliged countries that why he (Saddam) interferes in the affairs of Khuzistan?
Not only Saddam denied this but also he answered that Ba'th party believes in Pan-Arabism and he helps the Arab people of Khuzistan in accordance with the goals of the Ba'th party.
What's Happening In Iraq?
A summary of Pelnom, Central Committee of Iraq's Communist Party;
The central committee of Iraq's communist party in late July 1979, held its normal meeting and reviewed internal, Arabic and Global issues and published a full report.
In this report the events which led to apostasy in political, social and economical levels, ranking treatment of Ba'th party toward Kurds, hostile stance of the regime in front of national interests and non-imperialist and non-Zionist were reviewed.
This report emphasizes on the issue of unity between Iraq and Syria and it has revealed the wave of suppression of groups and democratic organizations.
It also gives solutions after explaining social, economical and political conflicts made by ruling regime. This report includes two general parts:
First, what is related to social realities and events which are created by policies of Ba'th party and second, the part which include communist party's solutions and the ways of going out of the conflict.
So, the first part which helps us learn about the situation of Iraq at that time and is a viewpoint different from that of Iran, we have brought it in this chapter.
Content of the Report:
Our era between Pelnom March 10, 1978 and current era has witnessed a horrible apostasy in the ruling policy of Iraqi regime.
Recent apostasy has been shown in different forms of moves whose goals can be summarized as follows:
Destroying advanced national and tribal unified front, erasing the communist party of Iraq, preserving chocking situation against other parties and advanced forces by continuing the methods of terror, torture and murdering, insisting on violation the rights of Arabs and Kurds and minorities, deepening the aspects of tribal religious cult-like discrimination, Ba'thizing organizations, isolating the autonomous state of Kurdistan, moving in benefit of capitalist classes who damage farmers and other workers, expensive contracts with imperialist countries and their dependent companies, widening enmities with groups and advanced classes whether inside the Arabic nation or in regional level, and finally bringing about unfriendly behavior toward it and weakening friendly relations and cooperation with socialist countries in benefit of imperialist monopoly and reactionary groups. All these have been done against mentioned purposes in the spectrum of national unity front.
Despite sensitive necessities and obligations which national Unity front was supposed to do, Ba'th officials tried to change national Unity front to a tool in their own hands.
So, the number of the meetings of the front's central committee was decreased to 6 months to a year and only in special occasions. The meetings were not held for hearing Iraq and Arab world issues, but to hear the reports of regime officials.
The secretariat of the front spent its time to hear the complaints of the victims of chocking situation; therefore, front lost its validity and it was finally dissolved by the Ba'thists.
Since 1968, Ba'th officials tried to keep executive, judicial and legislative powers.
Since 1977, the wave of fighting with communism and revolutionary democrats was intensified. Meanwhile, terror and execution of dissidents, whether from advanced nationalists or freedom-seeking elements and even Ba'thist dissidents and religious men, was not stopped.
Ba'th officials did their best to turn the cultural, social and training organization to Ba'th ones. They banned non-Ba'thist citizens be employed in organizations.
Non-Bathist students were banned from entering military or governmental institutions.
Many of the people were executed by Ba'th courts all over the country. Many innocent people were killed. For instance, one thousand Iraqis were killed during 3 years.
All these matters indicate that Ba'th officials didn't trust their close friends and they had no tools to keep their power except the execution devices.
Facing Kurds' Affairs:
Since the contract was made between the Shah and Saddam Hussein against the armed tribal movements of Iraqi Kurds and after the movement was finished in the spring of 1957, the ranking aspects appeared in the regime's stance toward the issue of Kurdistan and turning from statement of March 11, 1970.
Official units were removed from "autonomous" regions and tens of thousands of Kurds were driven from their regions to other places; the borders of Iran and Turkey became empty and farmers were settled in the complexes like military bases; they were restrained from productive tools.
Now, after four years of 1975 suppression on Kurdistan we can't call it anything except "battlefield or occupied region". Millions of Dinars were spent on building roads, fortresses and military bases.
Kurd farmers have been expelled from productive regions of country and these regions have become military bases. The result of all these is that Kurdistan has become the most undeveloped region from economical point of view.
Apostasy in Economical and Social Management:
When the oil industry became national in 1972 and the prices of oil increased after the war of October 1973, Iraqi revenues from oil export increased from 575 million dollars in 1972 to 5700 million dollars in 1974.
This is still increasing and it will reach 15000 million dollars in 1978. This revenue fed the tendency of regime leaders to defeat Arab countries and its falling into a circle of deception which had no relation with campaign in the way of Arab Unity.
Oil money gave this chance to Iraqi leaders to finance some bands and groups abroad in order to reach their political goals.
One of the examples is spending money in election campaigns in France to the benefit Jacques Chirac ( ally of Israeli Zionists) and against advanced left parties of France.
They spent a lot of money in the markets of capitalist countries to save their economy and help them not become bankrupt. In the economical program of 1974-1978, more than 90 percent capital in the industrial section was given to capitalist and multi-national companies and these companies get high advantages for the economy of Iraq.
Since millions of money were spent large contractive groups were formed and Iraq witnessed for the first time the appearance of hundreds of millions which had firm links with bureaucratic bureague and they divided advantage with Iraqis.
This small borgeuasi which had become rich, affected Iraq ideologically and politically.
This wrong process deepened the classes divisions and disrupted the distribution of revenue among people.
The masses became entangled in many difficulties by this policy: expense, shortages of materials and building matters, increase in the crisis of dwelling, crisis of transportation and communication, bad health care and education services and etc.
These problems were not made by the low revenue but they were made by high revenue. The main reason for life difficulties for the time being is wrong reactionary and economical policy (the policy of sudden decision making).
Meanwhile, the rich officials were not aware of the situation and this is a country where most of people are restrained from comfortable life.
A Stance against the Benefits of National Campaign on Imperialism and Zionism:
The changes which affected the policy and decision on making of Ba'th regime put this regime in cooperation with imperialism and reactionary regimes.
Iraqi regime accepted least resistance and finished ties with Egypt.
Iraqi regime, which had called itself as "the Unifier of Arabs" is in fact the agent of conspiracy, and division-making and destruction.
This regime has opened forged fronts to take itself aside from tribal necessities in campaign against Israel.
This regime had done this so many times. This time, it's Iran's turn to face the conspiracy. It still planned conspiracy against it, although this regime knows that revolution destroyed the fortresses of imperialism, cut the root of SENTO contract, called back the forces of Shah from Oman, stopped exporting oil to Israel, finished its relations with Israel and Egypt and stated clearly that it's the ally of Arab nations, especially Palestinians.
This kind of rude method against the revolution of Iran was welcomed by imperialists and their propaganda centers.
The stance of Iraq against Iran was not better than its stance toward Afghanistan and revolution of Ethiopia and also position taking against Vietnam.
Another suspected position by Iraq is proposing a so-called solution for solving the problems of Lebanon.
The content of this plan is that "Lebanon's Front" take the control of the country, surround Syria from different sides, weaken Palestinians and revolutionary forces of Lebanon so that there's a place for Iraq's Ba'th party.
Right at this time, Navy of the U.S. was settled in the Arab Seas and the conspiracies of imperialists in the Arabian Peninsula and Persian Gulf region is going to increase.
The rulers of Iraq resorted to the Saudi Arabia and signed security contracts with them to coordinate their joint efforts in order to dissolve relations of Yemen, Making conspiracy against democratic Yemen and the front of National Democratic North Yemen and to destroy positive results of Kuwait meeting in previous March and defame Democratic Republic of Yemen by murderous tools, such as assassinating Dr. Toufiq Roshdi.
Along with the efforts of regime to bolster political ties with the imperialism of France and giving cheap oil to that country, Iraq has recently started wide efforts to cooperate with that country in different ways. Such as, signing contracts for buying weapons from France and other weapon makers in West Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and this itself reveals another apostasy in the following Sadat's anti-Soviet Union's policies.
In order to satisfy the West toward the meaning of "Arabic Unity", Iraq has tried to teach Westerners that Arabic Unity will not harm them.
That's why there's talk of "Arabic Nation", despite the identity of political states.
This regime will not say a word about the real occupation of Iraq and the presence of U.S. military bases in Arabic Nation.
